Imprisonment Rules
Imprisonment in Landfall SMP is a powerful narrative mechanic—used to detain traitors, extract leverage, or disappear enemies. It should feel high-stakes and immersive, but also fair and recoverable, even if a nation roleplays an authoritarian state.
This system ensures imprisonment is cinematic, narratively justified, and offers clear opportunities for escape, rescue, or resolution.
These rules exist to prevent imprisonment from becoming a tool of OOC punishment or mechanical abuse, while still allowing secretive or long-term detentions if earned in roleplay.
General Principles
- Imprisonment is allowed, but must follow RP and mechanical fairness.
- No prison is unbreakable—but escape is not instant or brute-force.
- Prisoners must always have a path to resolution, whether through RP, escape, diplomacy, or rebellion.
Requirements for a Valid Imprisonment
- In-Character Capture
- The target must be detained via legitimate gameplay (trapping, luring, disabling, or overwhelming in combat).
- “Knocking out” or ambushing someone is valid if backed by RP tension or conflict.
- Stated IC Justification
- The captors must provide an in-character reason (e.g., war crimes, rebellion, suspicion of espionage).
- The reason must be declared via signs, books, Discord RP, or verbal confrontation within 24 hours.
- Detention Site
- A prisoner must be held in a reasonable structure that supports the RP—such as a jail, dungeon, or secure bunker.
- It must be thematically appropriate, not just a box with no roleplay.
Escape & Rescue Rules
Minecraft blocks can always be broken—but in Landfall, escape from prison must be narratively earned, not just done by mining through walls.
Prison Break System
The longer a prisoner is held, the easier it becomes for the story to move forward. Escapes should feel daring, not impossible.
Escape attempts may succeed through:
- Sabotage from inside (tools, allies, hidden gear)
- Outside infiltration or rescue
- Bribing or deceiving a guard
- Long-term mining or tunneling, if supported by RP (e.g., working on the wall for multiple real days, leaving signs of progress)
A prison with no RP or activity may be declared invalid after 72 hours, and the prisoner may be freed by the Divine Entity.
Unless otherwise agreed, no prisoner may be held longer than 14 days without a strong narrative justification, an ongoing effort to arrange a trial, prisoner exchange, or other form of narrative progression.
Fairness & Abuse Prevention
- No Instant Mining: If you’re imprisoned, you may not just mine out in one session. Staff may reverse illegitimate breakouts.
- No OOC punishment jailing: You may not jail someone OOC for being annoying, winning a debate, etc.
- No indefinite limbo: If you imprison someone and never interact with them, they will be released.
Resolution Options
Once imprisoned, the following outcomes may occur:
- Trial or execution (per RP or national law)
- Forced confession or cooperation
- Escape, rescue, or revolt
- Prisoner exchange or political negotiation
Divine Oversight
If a prisoner is held unfairly or without RP:
- A ticket may be opened.
- The Divine Entity may request justification, inspect the prison site, and release the prisoner.
Repeat abuse (e.g., jailing multiple players without reason) may lead to:
- Bans from participating in espionage or imprisonment
- Rollbacks of jail structures or political changes
